Tara Tomkinson: Beautiful truth about James and me    ·    April 1st, 2006

His love songs have won him legions of admirers on both sides of the Atlantic.
And it appears that James Blunt has plenty of experience to draw on.

Yesterday Tara Palmer Tomkinson claimed she had an affair with the singer despite his long-term relationship with an heiress.

Commenting yesterday on rumours of a fling, the 34-year-old ‘It Girl’ said: “If nothing had happened between James and I then I would have come right out and said nothing had happened.

“And I haven’t done that, have I? That’s your answer - it’s pretty easy to work out what I am saying. It’s not rocket science.

“However, I am quite deliberately stopping short of going into detail. I’m keeping my dignity here. I really would like the whole thing just to blow over.”

At the weekend, Miss Palmer Tomkinson had refused to comment about her relationship with Blunt. That led his girlfriend of 18 months, Camilla Boler, to accuse her of publicity seeking.

Miss Palmer Tomkinson hit back, saying: “I didn’t even know James had a girlfriend when it happened. Now she’s come out of the woodwork and says I made all this up for PR.

“Well, first of all, I never talk about my private life. And secondly, I’m not the one who needs publicity out of the two of us.” (more…)

James Blunt brings out the beautiful people    ·    April 1st, 2006

British boy wonder James Blunt crooned to a sold-out Sokol Auditorium Tuesday night, riding the night out on his hot and hoarse falsetto and shaggy good looks. And what a strange, strange ride it was.

The normal indie-rock crowd of the Sokol was transplanted by hundreds of West Omaha socialites, with their distressed jeans and graphic tees, 3-inch stilettos and sparkly eyeliner. In the place of lighters and glow sticks flashed the blue screens of cell phones: concert-goers texting, talking and recording through the evening.

Blunt didn’t mind. His simple ballads, which may have once been considered better for a quiet bar with a crooked wooden stool and a mic, intoxicated the denim-clad crowd. Twenty-something girls shrieked as he bounced toward the stage’s edge, with one girl timidly offering up a humongous black padded bra.

I say bounced because that’s what he did. He’s in fact a very peppy, bouncy fellow, despite his sad-story songs of heartbreak, loss and war. His self-deprecating British humor between songs was a curious contrast to those haunting lyrics and lonely piano poundings. (more…)

James Blunt Denies Fling With British Socialite    ·    April 1st, 2006

James Blunt has denied claims that he had a fling with British socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson.

Blunt is insisting that he and his long term girlfriend Camilla Boler are still very much together.

Speaking to The Mirror, Camilla branded TPT a “publicity seeker” and said she was taking the rumours with a “whole canister of salt”.

However, Camilla hardly even ruffled TPT’s feathers who said of the nobody: “I don’t care what Camilla says. I don’t even know the girl.”

When asked about her relationship with the incredibly posh Mr Blunt, the extremely posh friend of Prince Charles’, TPT replied: “No comment.”

James Blunt’s Secret Society Girl Affair, Tara Palmer Tomkinson?    ·    March 26th, 2006

James Blunt is reportedly dating society girl Tara Palmer Tomkinson following a “rocky patch” with girlfriend Camilla Boler.

The singer, who penned his smash-hit single You’re Beautiful about Camilla, is said to have spent the night with Tomkinson after flying her out to join him in New York earlier this month.

A source tells the Sunday Mirror, “Tara was absolutely thrilled when James suggested she should fly over to see him in New York.

“It shows how much she means to him. Tara and James have been good friends for a while - but recently it has turned into something more.

“She knows all about Camilla and his relationship with her - and she knows it’s been going through a rocky patch.”

Even in the army, singer James Blunt kept his guitar at the ready    ·    March 26th, 2006

James Blunt may be the only musician who can claim “queen’s bodyguard” as a day job while gigging London at night. That’s what the 29-year-old Brit was doing while writing many of the songs that now appear on his debut, “Back to Bedlam,” which has sold more than 500,000 copies in the United States since its release in October.

Never mind that none of the songs has anything to do with Blunt’s experience wearing a plumed helmet and sword while guarding Queen Elizabeth II’s carriage on horseback. The only reference to the four years Blunt spent in the British army is the album closer, “No Bravery,” which offers a chilling bird’s-eye view of the conflict in Kosovo, where Blunt served as a reconnaissance officer.

What makes Blunt’s military background so notable is its stark contrast to the singer-songwriter’s music. Delivered in sliding falsetto, his strummy slow-dancers deal almost exclusively with the civilian-life concerns of love and loyalty. They bear absolutely no trace of machismo or machine-gun fire. James Blunt Gives Back, Belleayre Music Festival in Highmount, NY    ·    March 21st, 2006

James Blunt, whose single ‘You’re Beautiful’ has rocketed to the top of the charts in the U.S. as well as his native England, will perform a May 28th benefit concert at the Belleayre Music Festival in Highmount, NY.
James Blunt has taken the music world by storm since the release of his debut album, BACK TO BEDLAM. The former British soldier has sold more than seven million albums worldwide, has toured throughout the UK, Europe and North America, and recently appeared on Saturday Night Live and The Oprah Winfrey show here in the U.S.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit both the Belleayre Music Conservatory, a non-profit founded to promote cultural programs in the Catskills, and the ‘Snuffy Suites.’ The idea for the benefit was conceived by Atlantic Records A&R executive Mary Gormley, a Phoenicia native. The ‘Snuffy Suites’ dog shelter in the town of Shandaken was named in memory of Mary’s loving canine companion, ‘Snuffy,’ who passed away last year. At that time, Mary asked James if he would consider doing a benefit to raise funds for the shelter. He readily agreed and will perform an intimate acoustic show at Belleayre on May 28.

‘James is truly a man of his word,’ Mary related. ‘His career is now a whirlwind of fame and he is gladly taking the time to perform the ‘Snuffy’ benefit.’ (more…)

James Blunt “facing relationship trouble”    ·    March 19th, 2006

Camilla Bowler, the singer’s girlfriend of 18 months, has apparently told friends she can no longer cope with his non-stop travelling.

“She is at her wits’ end,” one of Bowler’s friends told the Sunday Mirror. “She loves James - but in her heart of hearts she can’t see how they can have a future together when he’s always jetting around the world.”

Following his Brit Awards success, Blunt has embarked on a nine-month world tour. He is currently playing 21 dates in the United States.

A music industry source was unsurprised the star’s schedule was causing personal problems. “James’s career rise has taken everyone by surprise. This is the time to strike internationally and that means him travelling all over the world,” he explained. “But Camilla has not been with him - so it’s no surprise the relationship is under strain.”

Royalty row over James Blunt hits    ·    March 19th, 2006

James Blunt is locked in a royalties dispute with a producer who says he helped the singer launch his career.
The UK Performing Rights Society (PRS) has suspended royalties on six songs from Blunt’s hit album Back to Bedlam.

Lukas Burton said he worked with Blunt at the start of his career but the star severed ties with him when other industry figures started taking notice.

Blunt’s publicist said: “Traditionally, when a record is this massive, everyone wants to claim credit for its success.”

She added: “This is no different.” But she refused to give any further details.

Blunt’s album sold two million copies in the UK in 2005 and he recently became the first UK artist to have a US number one single for nine years.

The British producer has worked with artists including Tina Arena, Samantha Mumba and Dido.

A PRS spokesperson declined to name the songs involved in the dispute but said Blunt’s best-known single You’re Beautiful (more…)

James Blunt Sold His Sister    ·    March 17th, 2006

London - James Blunt has revealed he sold his sister on eBay, Ananova.com reports.

The singer came up with the idea so she could attend a funeral in Ireland.

The plan worked well for his sister as she is now dating the winner of the auction.

According to IOL.com James said: “I had a bit of an eBay addiction and I sold everything in my apartment in London and then I came in one day and my sister was crying because she couldn’t get to a funeral in southern Ireland.

“None of the planes were working, none of the trains, none of the ferries, so I saw another golden opportunity to flog something and so I put my sister up on eBay, saying, “Damsel in distress, needs to get to Southern Ireland. What do you get out of it as a bidder? You just get to be a knight in shining armour.”

“Everyone started bidding and a guy won and he had a helicopter and he could fly her to the funeral in southern Ireland and they’re now dating and they’ve been going out for 18 months and she’s living with him.”

He said he has similar plans for his other sister, he added: “I have a second sister, who’s gonna go on sale soon.”

James Blunt Soldier-songwriter reveals his sensitive side    ·    March 12th, 2006

WASHINGTON - British singer-songwriter James Blunt’s “Back to Bedlam,” released in October 2004, sold all of 482 copies in its first week. By the end of 2005, however, Blunt’s debut had sold 2.4 million copies in England.

“That (the album’s slow start) genuinely was the plan,” Blunt says from London a few days before kicking off his first American headlining tour. “We wanted to have a gentle approach because so many record companies start talking about the importance of first-week sales, and as I understand the music industry, first-week sales is all about how much you hype up an album, and then the album seems to disappear.

“It seems much more relevant if you just put it out and see if anyone likes it, see if they tell their friends,” he adds. “Then second-week sales will be a good indicator of what’s going to happen in subsequent weeks.”

“Back to Bedlam” eventually spent nine weeks atop the British charts, thanks in great part to the delicate, inescapable single “You’re Beautiful.” The most played track on British radio last year, it has become almost as ubiquitous in America, where the album came out in October.

The United States is one of the few countries in which Blunt’s plaintive single has not topped the Hot 100 Chart: It’s currently stuck at No. 2. Blunt is managed by the same folks who handle Elton John, who has called “You’re Beautiful” a modern-day “Your Song.” One much-predicted consequence - that “You’re Beautiful” was destined to become a first-dance favorite at weddings - gained credence when Blunt was asked to play it at John’s wedding in December.
